A story of a girl going to a germans home and living in it until the war was over
Where did you live during the war? Hi I'm Maryam during the war I lived in the basement of a german persons home.I had a bed and a secret room in an old closet the secret room was because if the Natzis came in the basement in this house looking for me or other Jews we would not be caught thesecret room had boxes and an old cloth to hid under. I ate alone but the germans daughter played with me until finally the war was over but I found out my parents were alive I went to my parents and my sister made it back too then we were happy.
What challenges did you encounter during the war? The Natzis took my family away and I had to run to a german home to be safe.
What impact (positive or negative) did the war have on your life? the was a negitive impact because the Natzis wer rounding up Jews and I was a Jew that is why they took my family thats when I started to live in the basement of a germans home.
What was the public’s reaction to you after the war? They didn’t know me but they were able to help me in my life until I found my family and then I moved away to america with my family.
What was the hardest part of the war for you? Why? The hadest part was hiding because the Natzis always were checking all the houses each day and when they did check the house I was in I would go in the safe room and hide in or behind the box.
What was your life like before the war? Life before the war was peaceful and calm I also loved playing with my little sister but she was scent on the kindertransport to my aunt in england when war started I was suposed to but I had to run so I couldn't.
How did you become involved in the war effort? I went to school and did my work in fifth grade learning about how war was spreading until I couldn't go to school because Jews weren't allowed.
