one day in Boston a lady named Dorothea Dix teached at a sunday school in a jail.
that inspired her to travel through Massachusetts jails and metal institutes to see if the term and conditions were like that through out every jail.
so she went to every jail and mentel institution in massachuttest she found out that most of the thousands of the americans in debts prisons owed less than $20 dollars while there locked up.
so why they were locked uo they couldnt even earn money to pay debts. so they stayed looked up for many years.
she was shocked by how the mental people were treated. they were locked up in dirty and drungy cells and if they miss behavied they were whipped and beaten,
she felt like between all of the jails and mental intituions were reated wrong. by the time she died everything was fixed, people were treated right, and cells were clean.
