  • Many slaves had to work on plantations and they had to pick cotton for their owners. With no pay check. Their owners used slave codes.
  •  Many enslaved workers suffered great cruelty. 
  • Why did you cause such a rebellion on the plantation?
  • Why are we being treated this way?
  • There is no reason to be shouting!!
  • I don't know what you are talking about.
  • You disobeyed me again and this time you are going to pay for it!
  • Many slaves even worked inside of the homes and they cooked and cleaned many things like clothes.
  • I here by proclaim that all slaves are now free.
  • I am finally Free! I can now do anything that I want.
  • Some enslaved Africans learned trades, such as carpentry, blacksmithing, or weaving. Skilled workers could sometimes set up shops, sharing their profits with the slaveholders.
