  • Ch.7 Cement
  • "Mr. Radley, ah-did you put cement in that hole in that tree down yonder?"
  • "Tree's dying. You plug 'em with cement when they're sick. You ought to know that, Jem"
  • Ch.8 The Fire
  • "That Tom Swift book, it ain't mine, it's Dill's."
  • "Don't worry, Scout, it ain't time to worry yet."
  • Ch.9 Finch's Landing
  • "You gonna take that back, Fra-ancis?"
  • "Nigger-lover!"
  • After finding stuff in the knot-hole of the tree Mr. Nathan Radley fills the hole with cement, saddening Jem.
  • Ch.10 The Dog
  • As Jem and Scout watch MIss. Maudie's house burn down out in the cold Boo Radley puts a blanket around them as they aren't paying attention.
  • Ch.11 Mrs.Dubose
  • "Don't pay any attention to her, just hold your head high and be a gentleman."
  • "Your father's no better than the niggers and trash he works for!"
  • Scout fights Francis because he talks bad about her father Atticus for supporting Tom Robinson.
  • Jem and Scout learn that their father Atticus was the best shot in all of Maycomb after he shoots a dog and they learn he used to be called Ol' one shot.
  • "I haven't shot a gun in thirty years."
  • "I can't shoot that well and you know it."
  • When Mrs. Dubose commented about Atticus lawing for niggers, Jem got angry and destroyed Mrs. Dubose flowers.
