Storyboard Text

  • Such a nice day to be at the beach Jennie!
  • Hey! Where did the ice cubes in my iced coffee go?
  • Your ice cubes melted because of the Particle Theory.
  • Yeah, Jimin you're right.
  • The what theory?
  • The Particle Theory, a particle is a small portion of matter. Moreover, matter is anything that takes up space and volume.
  • oh ok.
  • There are three states of matter in the particle theory: solid, liquid and gas. When the particles are heated, they move faster, spread farther apart and may change state
  • Is that why my ice cubes melted?
  • Yes, Jimin the particles of your ice cubes started to vibrate faster due to the heat. So, the solid changed its state to liquid.
  • Makes sense.
  • The particles of a solid have a definite shape and volume and the force of attraction is so strong that the articles vibrate very little. This is what keeps a solid's shape.
  • Then when heated it turns into liquid.
  • The particles are packed less tightly which is why they can move freely. Their force or attraction is still strong enough to hold the particles together.
  • Yes, you're correct. The particles of a liquid are farther apart then solids.
