Storyboard Text

  • On a bright and sunny day in May, Farmer Joe was walking down the dirt path to check on his cash crops that had provided him with his most prized possession; money. He began to make hundreds upon hundreds because of World War One's demand for cotton.
  • Oh how I lovveee my money!!!
  • When Farmer Joe got to his field, he saw that a Boll Weevil had laid it's nasty little eggs inside of the bale of cotton, and the newly hatched critter had eaten most of the cotton.
  • What in the dang tarnation is this little critter doing?!? I can't sell this cotton!!!
  • Miraculously, Farmer Joe harvested just enough cotton to take into town and sell, but he also needed to tap into his left-over supply of cotton from the war that hadn't really seemed to be getting smaller latley....
  • Oh boy! I can't wait to get some money in exchange for these pearly-white bales of cotton!!!
  • As the day went on, Farmer Joe noticed that no one wanted to buy cotton anymore, now that the textile mill he had been selling his cotton to for uniforms for the soldiers no longer needed as much cotton.
  • Come on people! This is some high quality stuff!!!
  • Listen sir, we already told you that we're not intersted!
  • After several weeks of living on small sales and having difficulty paying for his land, Farmer Joe was forced to sell pieces of his land and fire some of his tenant farmers. There had also been little rain recently. But alas, Farmer Joe remained hopeful that he'd find wealth once more.
  • Hopefully, my crops will be better than last harvest's.
  • When Farmer Joe finally got to his fields, all of his cotton was dead, and the soil had been left dry and unusable due to the drought. He knew that he wouldn't be able to pay any more bills and would have to give up the farm l story is similar to that of many American farmers' experiences after the war, which led to the country falling into a deep depression.
  • Why is the world so cruel?
