  • FDR: Failing Banks
  • Hoover: Farmers Struggle to Get By
  • FDR: Unemployment
  • Yeah! Now I have a job and can make some money!!
  • The action FDR took to help failing banks was he to put the Emergency Banking Act into action. This helped only sound banks and that they were able to open after 5 day periods. This was to help the nation restore their trusts in their banks. This was also know as a bank holiday. In FDR are doing this it helped to increase his "power" in making decisions with the countries money.
  • FDR: Unsafe Stock Market
  • Hoover took action in trying to help farmers in this time of struggle. He did so by putting the Agricultural Marketing Act into play. This helped setup cooperatives and also the Government would buy surpluses from farmers. In doing this they were trying to prevent deflation, but this didn't do anything in helping to solve the over production problem. The Government also occasionally would loan farmers some money.
  • FDR: Problems in Industry & Labor
  • FDR was very successful in making a change for a better for the people during the Great Depression. He helped the unemployed get jobs by placing the CCC or Civilian Conservation Corps into the workforce. They usually employed men 17-28 that were unmarried This employed 3 million young men and they were paid $30/ month. $25 of this was sent home to their families in the relief. Some of the jobs they did was restoring forests, fought fires (firefighters), drained swamps, controlled floods and helped in the creation of park trails.
  • FDR: Securing the American Dream
  • The Securities and Exchange Commission is a Government Department that is responsible for protecting U.S. investors from potential loss of income by maintaining fair and orderly practices to encourage capital markets. They also have the job to oversee participants in the security. FDR also strived for long term reform, regulation and a complete recovery.
  • FDR came up with the idea of the National Industrial Recovery Act. This act allowed for them to create maximum hours, minimum wages and more rights for labor workers. Businesses were asked to create codes to govern their industries. They also wanted to raise prices to help stimulate an economic recovery.
  • Securing the American Dream was probably the top priority for FDR at the time so that his popularity stayed high. Somethings he accomplished were ending the prohibition by passing the beer and wine act. Also to help poor families they came up with FHA loans and social security. In that families who struggle can still lead a somewhat normal life.
