  • The new breed, longhorn cattle, developed as Spanish breeds mixed with English cattle brought by U.S. settlers. The longhorns were well suited to life in Texas, thriving on the native grasses. These animals can endure hot weather as well as cold.they ate cacti during droughts and could survive on little water. This cattle was also immune to the cattle disease called Texas fever.
  • The Spindletop oil boom affected national oil prices in the way that went down do to the producing of large quantities. The supply outpaced the national demand. In 1902 the prices reached an all time low of 3 cents per barrel. Do to the rushing of companies at Spindletop soon led to the depletion of the fields. By 1904 there were so many people competing for oil that only 10,000 barrels were produced.
  • Some advantages to railroads are they promised cheap, fast, and reliable transportation. It was cheaper to ship goods on railroads than wagon. Many texans hoped that the that the arrival of the new trains would spur economic development.
