  • Allowed California to enter the Union as a free state. Mexican Cesion was divided into Utah and New Mexico. The South new hat California had a large population and made it so they would not win
  • Trouble in Kansas & Cred Scott Decision
  • The fugitive slave act made it so slave owners could get their slaves from the North. Many slaves fled from the South to the North where they could not be captured. The South was then able to get their slaves back.
  • John Brown's Raid on Harpers' Ferry
  • A novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It spoke out powerfully against slavery. Written from the point of view of a slave. It sparked outrage against the south.
  • 
  • The Kansas-Nebraska act was a plan to purchase two territories, Kansas and Nebraska. The citizens of each state would be allowed to decide if they wanted slavery or not. Dred Scott Decision was an enslaved man sueing for freedom. 11 years later the case reached the Supreme Court.
  • Took over an arsenal in Harpers Ferry, Virignia, in hopes of starting a slave rebellion.
