Oh why couldn't I have been rich! Why must I be poor!
I'll give you 400 francs that I was going to use on a rifle.
I need money for dress, but we are poor.
Even this nice dress is incomplete, I must borrow a nice gem from my friend.
In the olden old days of Paris, France, there was a couple. The couple was Madame and Monsieur Losiel. Madame was quite beautiful, but she was born to a family of clerks. As such, she was married to a clerk. Though she was well off, Madame wanted more.
This costs 36,000 francs.
Trying to make his wife happy, Monseiur Losiel thought to give his wife an invite to a fancy party. This did not please Madame. For Madame had no expensive party cloths, no gems, no furs. The Madame cried, and her loving husband gave her 400 Francs to buy a nice dress for herself.
Even with the most amazing of dresses, this was not enough for Madame. She put it on and was not happy. For she had no gems to wear with it. A rose would look poor she thought, and so she went to a more well off friend from school and borrowed a lovely dimond necklace.
Oh my dear, the necklace was a fake. Only costing 500 francs.
Madame noticed that the necklace was gone. Her husband went out to find it with no luck. It was hopeless and there was only one thing to do. To replace the necklace. They found one, costing 36,000 francs.
Here is the money.
Madame now had to work hard, as no money could be put to waste. Madame became old, worn, and poor.
At least the party was fun, such joyful memories.
Ten years had past and the last bill was paid. Madame now felt free. A burden lifted. She saw her old friend from long ago, and told her the story of the necklace. Her friend held Madame's hands and cried, for the one you lost was just a fake worth only 500 francs.
I lost the necklace, but replaced it. Now look at me, I'm poor.
