Development of Conflict as tensions run high in John Proctors home
The Crucible Act II Rumors of witchcraft spread around the town after Betty Parris comes down with a mysterious illness and Abigail claims they were bewitched, along with Mary, Mercy, and Ruth. Now accusations of witches flood the town of Salem.
John arrives home to Elizabeth wanting him to tell the town Abigail is lying about witches. John is hesistant for it might reveal his affair with Abigail to the town.
I do not judge you. The magistrate sits in your heart that judges you.
Mary arrives back after going against John to testify gives Elizabeth a poppet she had sewed while in court. Mary tells the others Elizabeth's name was brought up in court but Mary vouched for her, saving her life.
John speaks to Reverend Hale stating how vengeance is running in Salem not witchcraft. Hale is unsure until they find the poppet which Abigail told them it signifies witchcraft, it having a needle in it's side where Abigail had been stabbed.
With the poppet now being known as a symbol of witchcraft and Elizabeth owning one they take her away against Johns wishes. John tells her not to fear anything and he would be there for her soon.
ELIZABETH IS GUILTY
John realizes Abigail had set Elizabeth up with help from Mary. John says Mary will come with him tomorrow to testify the truth in court but Mary pleads saying Abigail will kill her and will tell the town about Johns affair with her, leaving them cornered.
