Hi my name is Holling Hoodhood. The book Wednesday Wars is all about my 7th grade year at Camillo Junior High during the tough times of the Vietnam War. When I first meet my teacher Mrs. Baker I immediately believe she hates my guts. However as the year drags on, I start to realize that it is not the case.
The theme of the story Wednesday Wars is Don't juge a book by it's cover. From the second Holling meets his teacher Mrs. Baker he thinks that she hates him but really that is not true.
She hates me!
When Mrs. Baker first tells Holling that he will be reading Shakespeare he first believes that she is doing this on purpose to annoy him. It turns out that Holling actually loves Shakespeare and uses one characters curses all the time then stars as Arial the fairy in Shakespeare's play The Tempest.
You will be reading lots of Shakespeare this year.
Holling's classmates threaten him that if he doesn't bring in creampuffs for all of them then he will die. Holling can't afford enough cream puffs and when Mrs. Baker notices how worried he is she goes out and buys them for him.
You have 10 days to bring in cream puffs for all of us!!
Holing Hoodhood is on the cross country running team and has his first meet coming up. Mrs. Baker turns out to be an olympic runner and teaches Holling the correct way to run by pumping your arms. He comes first place in his competition and Mrs. Baker is on the sidelines cheering him on.
Pump your arms like this.
As you can see the theme of the story Wednesday Wars is Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover since I first believe that my teacher Mrs. Baker hates me but, soon enough I realize she is actually a great teacher and I really like her.
