In 1820 an act called the Missouri Compromise separated the states into the north and the south by an imaginary line called the 36 30 line. Later in 1852 the new compromise, The Kansas Nebraska act removed the line.

The Kansas Nebraska act was a major cause of the term bleeding Kansas. It was passed on may 30th 1854 and It allowed the states to decide for themselves if they wanted to be a slave or free state also know as Popular Sovereignty.
The dread Scott case was a big problem for slaves because the slaves owners could move them to the west by the choice of popular sovereignty.
The 7 debates are are considered the one of the most important debates in history. The Lincoln -Douglas debates were important because it would decide who received the place in the senate. In the end Douglas won the label.
