Storyboard Text

  • Dhanagupta, a famous and rich merchant, had only one young son, Yashodhana. Dhanagupta starts thinking about his son's marriage.
  • I will choose my own bride. I want someone who is intelligent. She should be careful with money, and not a spendthrift.
  • please give me a chariot, a servant and four horses. I will travel around the country and find a wife.
  • He travelled all over the country, met many women and their hopeful fathers. But he says something weird to every woman he met.
  • I will marry you, but first take this bag of paddy. I want you to cook me a meal of rice, dal, vegetables and curd with this. Only if you do this I will marry you.
  • sorry what?? Are you fine?
  • There he saw small neat hut and an old man and his daughter. The girl was beautiful. Yashodhana was suddenly hopeful. He went up to them and told her about his condition.
  • of course aI can do it. It is not difficult. Why don't you rest awhile and I get your meal ready.
  • sure! Thank you so much..
  • His father argeed and gave him the chariot, servant and horses. Thus Yashodhana set off to look for a bride.
  • Yashodhana ate the meal. He became so happy. He could not hold back his curiosity any longer.
  • How did you do it?
  • First I pounded the paddy and got a lot of rice. Then I took the husk to the village jeweller who needs it for his work. He gave me money in return, with which I bought the vegetables, oil and curd.
  • Whoever heard this strange condition went away. Thus, many months went by and tired Yashodhana arrived with his equally tired servant and horse at a small village.
  • But the girl was not impressed. She stood back, folded her arms and looked him in the eye.
  • you may want to marry me but I don't want to marry you. Look at the state of your poor servants and horse. Did you think about them and feed them properly? I think not. You need to learn some manners and kindness before you can even think of marrying me.
  • After some time, the girl served him fluffy white rice, two types of vegetables, a bowl of hot dal and soft, refreshing curd.
  • After few months, he arrived at the girl's hut, on foot. He asked her father for her hand.
  • i'm so sorry for my past mistake. I've came now as a better man. Please accept my proposal.
  • i'm sorry too for my past behaviour. Now I can see love in your gaze and accept your proposal.
  • Yashodhana was amazed. He revealed who he was-the son of the country's richest man.
  • An ashamed Yashodhana went back home empty- handed. He felt so bad
  • Then they got married. Yashodhana and his wife looked after their large business with intelligence, compassion and honesty for many years.
