“Although I am a residential alien among you, sell me your holdings a burial place”
Abraham and the Hittites
"You are a mighty leader among us. Bury your dead in your choicest of our burial sites"
Abraham's wife, Sarah, has recently died, and Abraham needs to find a respective place to bury her. Also, he is in the land of the Hittites, and to bury Sarah, he needs their permission.
Ephron and Abraham
Since Abraham is in foreign lands, he speaks to the Hittites about acquiring land to Bury Sarah.
Ephron Nods his Head to Abraham
The Hittites show so much respect to Abraham that they speak to him and tell him there is no reason he shouldn't be able to pick and choose wherever he should want to bury Sarah.
“Thus the field with its cave was transformed from the Hittites to Abraham as a burial place.”
Abraham speaks to the leader of the Hittites, Ephron, about buying land and a cave to bury his wife, Sarah.
Abraham is shown arguably the greatest respect you can receive from a man such as Ephron. This sign of respect was Ephron telling him t pick wherever he wanted to bury Sarah, and bury her there.
"I give you both the field and the cave in it; in the presence of my people I give it to you Bury your dead!"
Even with this incredible offer, Abraham persists on paying Ephron for a field and cave to bury Sarah. Ephron grants this and sells the cave and field to Abraham. Abraham then finally lays his wife to rest.
