Griffin breathed a sigh of relief and quickly turned around around a locked the front door while muttering to himself. I had no clue how he knew where I was, but I was thankful to see a familiar face. Cole glanced briefly at him and then began to continue explaining. He told me that as an Orbiter, my job was to fix the planet. My job was to close the rift which would then entrap all the creatures inside. Cole told me that first we had to go to the source of the crack and then shut it from there.
I looked at Cole desperately and pleaded as I had no clue how I was supposed to close the rift. He stared at me with a look of desperation and nodded slightly. My heart became a barrier in my throat and eyes were threatening to spill over with tears. How was I supposed to save everyone using a power I just learned I had yesterday? How did I even know this wasn't all a dream? I glanced around at Cole and then Griffin and a realization came to me. Even if this was a dream, I had to do everything I could to help. I slowly inhaled one deep, shaky breath while nodding my head yes.
Cole laid out our plan of action and then we all began to make our long journey towards the origin of the crack, where the bridge had collapsed. Cole handed Griffin a small dagger from his pocket and proceeded to tell me that I needed to just stay close. I was opposed to the idea of being the weak girl that everyone had to protect, but Cole assured me that once I discovered the extent of my powers I would no longer need Cole and Griffin's protection. Once we were settled on the fastest way to get there, we slipped out the back door and began sprinting towards the bridge.
By the time we had reached the fracture in the Earth, my legs were shaking and I was gasping for breath. We had very narrowly avoided several creatures on our run here and there were more appearing at lightning speeds. I swiftly grabbed Cole's shoulder and swung him around while inquiring about how I was supposed to close this rift. As Cole opened his mouth to answer me, Griffin shouted that the creatures were closing in. Cole pulled his sword out of thin air and took on a battle stance alongside Griffin.
As I stood idly by watching Griffin and Cole battle the monstrous creatures, more creature began to crawl into my sight. That's when it occurred to me that we were running out of time. Cole noticed all of the creatures in the distance and whipped his head around while shouting to me how close the fissure in our planet. All I had to do was to imagine it. And then whatever I willed would happen. I closed my eyes and tried to picture the crack shrinking and then began to feel the ground rumble and shake. My face erupted in a smile and as quickly as it was there, it was gone.
My arms pricked as if red ants were crawling up and down me biting me over and over into my skin as a searing fire blistered in my head. I could feel my breathing go rapid and my body began to start convulsing back and forth. I gasped as a surge of electricity went through me scorching my insides and then everything went black except for a faint ringing noise dancing around in my right ear.
