  • Fredrick Douglass was a slave. He rarely saw his mother. He only saw her at nights when she would come visit him. Fredrick didnt know his father. Douglass was raised by his grandmother. Fredrick had left master Thomas's house and went to go live with Mr.Covey. On the first of January, 1833. Douglass for the first time in his life he was a field hand. Mr Covey was a cunning, slaves called him a snake.      
  • Douglass stayed in the woods before returning to coveys plantation      Douglass had to work with covey even though he didnt really like him "hurry up" Covey said.      Covey was angry and had searched for Douglass for a long time. he finnaly gave up the chase thinking that douglass would come back for something to eat. Douglass had spent the rest of the day in the woods it was either stay in the woods and starve or go back and get beaten to death  
  • When douglass had came back to the plantation, Covey had seen Douglass and had told him to go feed the horses. A few minutes later Covey had entered the stable with a long rope . Just as Douglass was leaving the stable covey had tried to catch Douglasse's legs and was trying to tie him up  
  • "get off me " Douglass said he started to fight back douglass was trying to tie his legs but Douglass hit Covey in the throught which gave Douglass the oppurtunity to get up. When Douglass got up Covey called Huges. When Covey called him over he tried to tie Douglasses hands when he did that Douglass had gave a kick to hudhes which caused Douglass and Covey to be injured both of them 
  • The Douglass and covey fight had lasted for 2 hours. Both Douglass and Covey were huffing and puffing at a great rate. "u shouldnt have resisted said covey" 
  • The whole six months after the fight Covey hasnt put laid a finger on covey they would often yell at each but was never touched. The fight had changed Douglass But he remained a slave for 4 years
