After the civil war slaves were free and then called freedmen. After all their hardships, you would think it would all be fine. It would be almost 100 years later until that happened. There were still a lot of problems between that time such as sharecropping, the black codes, and unbelievable discrimination.
As a freedmen not everyone was able to work a certain job.No freedmen could run for public office according to the black codes. Even their right to vote was compromised.
For any freedman for them to be able to vote, they need to be educated and have money. And not every freedmen had those two things.

As for sharecropping, for former slaves who could not afford their own land they borrowed someone else's. The owner of the land would then get most of the crops earned by the freedmen. The rest go to the freedmen. So if it works like that the freedmen are always in a constant debt.
Segregation and discrimination was the biggest problem and factor for the Civil Rights movement. It gave whites better treatment and treated blacks even worse.
Martin Luther King Jr. is a hero to all blacks. He ended and abolished discrimination at the heart. Although through his sacrifice there is still discrimination. So it is up to us to carry his legacy and stand up, enough is enough.
