  • Martin Luther was born in 1483 in Eisleben, Germany, to Margaret and Hans Luther.

  • Martin started school when he was only four and a half years old. He did very well in school and earned many degrees.
  • I will not recant!
  • Martin joined the Augustinian Order of hermits in 1505. He became a monk, then priest.
  • Luther preached against indulgences. He wrote a list of objections to indulgences, called the Ninety-five Theses, and he posted it on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg.
  • Luther was charged with heresy and ordered to recant. He would not and was excommunicated.
  • Martin Luther had tremendous courage and headed the Reformation of the Church that changed the world.
