Odysseus has come out from the ten year war with Troy victorious.
Odysseus goes to a nearby beach and his crew gets rowdy, looting and killing many civilians. The circones army then comes and kills many of Odysseus's troops.
Odysseus ventures to an unknown island looking for food. They see the cyclops who takes them prisoner, killing dozens of his men, Odysseus tricks the cyclops and blinds him, but gets to cocky and tells him his name. The cyclops curses Odysseus, with Poseidon's help, leading to all of the following events in The Odyssey.
Odysseus sacrifices animals and lays out food for the lost souls so he doesn't get eaten, he runs into his fallen crew member Elpenor. He also sees his Mother in the Land Of The Dead, bringing him to tears.
Odysseus and the remainder of his crew decide to sail past Scylla first, who eats six of his crew but he continues to sail to Helios Island. When they are forced out they sail past Charybdis which devours his ship and all of his crew, but since the gods favor him he is left alive.
After the Phaeacians deliver Odysseus back safely Athena transforms him into a beggar to see if his wife has been faithful, and so he can be let into his home. As it turns out he finds dozens of men trying to suit his wife so they can get Odysseus's land. At this point in the story he meets his son and they are going to kill everyone staying in his house since they can't make them leave.
