I'm going to vote for the new state to be a free state.
Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
Come here you slave!
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's Cabin
The Compromise of 1850 was created by Henry Clay, he came up with 5 different resolution. The first one was making California a Free State, the Utah Territory was made, an act was over New Mexico and Texas, and Washington slave trade was abolished. Popular Sovereignty is when you let the people pick weather they are free or slave states.
Kansas-Nebraska Act/Bleeding Kansas
The Fugitive slave act was apart of he Compromise of 1850, this act was forcing citizens to aid or help runaway slaves or they could be fined $1,000 and be put into jail fro 6 months. Federal Commissioners would get paid more for returning a suspected slave than for freeing the slaves. A lot of people hated this new act, like Vermont and Wisconsin.
Dred Scott Decision of 1857
Dred Scott you don't have the right to be free because you weren't a citizen.
Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book written by a free slave, her name was Harriet Beecher Stowe, she has written many books through out her life. She got famous for the Book called Uncle Tom's Cabin, this book was about her reaction to the Fugitive Slave Act, and it went crazy, people love it, 300,000 were sold. This book changed everyone's opinion on slavery.
Lincoln-Douglas Debate of 1858
I want Negros to have citizenship.
They shouldn't have citizenship.
The Kansas- Nebraska Act was an act that was going to let the territories of Nebraska and Kansas choose weather they would be slave or free by popular sovereignty. Bleeding Kansas was a term used to express how much violence that happened to make Kansas a state, people from other states were moving in to make it slave or free.
Dred Scott was a slave that sued this slave owner because his owner brought him into s free territory, and he thought that he should be free considering that he was illegally brought into a free territory. The judge said that since that he didn't have citizenship in that territory that they couldn't do anything.
Lincoln and Douglas debates were about 3 hours long and they were about slavery. Lincoln opinion on slavery was that he thought that Negros should have the right to Citizenship. Douglas was against Negros being more than just slaves.
