My hair will have to go...
William B. Gooberton Goldsmith
What a lovely watch chain! I must have it!
Della and Jim live in an apartment together. They have two things that are very important to them, Della's hair, and Jim's gold watch. Jim and Della are not doing too well, they are not making as much money as they used to.
I know, I cut off my hair, but you still love me, don't you? I did it so I could get you this present, see? It's a nice watch chain.
Della wants to get Jim something really nice for Christmas, but she doesn't have enough money. She decides to sell the thing most precious to her, her hair.
Let's just have our supper.
After selling her hair for $20, Della looks among the shops for the perfect gift. Finally, she found it. A watch chain just beautiful enough for Jim's watch. Della quickly purchases it.
I still love you!
After a long, hard day at work, Jim comes home. He is surprised to see Della's hair gone, but she urged him to open her gift. His face falls when he sees the watch chain. He had sold his watch to get Della a comb.
Jim decides to just sit down and have their dinner.
Though they really goofed up and sold their most precious things, they still love each other.
