  • King James II faced lots of problems after the Elizabethan rule. He faced problems with money and had offended the Puritan members of parliament.
  • After King James' death, King Charles I takes the throne. He also faces financial problems like King James. On top of that, he needs money to fight his wars with Spain and France. After he asks parliament for money and they deny, he dissolves parliament.
  • After a short time, King Charles was forced to call parliament back into session as he needed money desperately. Parliament refused to give him any money unless he agreed to sign the Petition of Rights which limited the powers of the king. However, even after he agreed to the petition, he ignores it.
