  • No,we can't cheat. That would ruin everything. The general would kill me.
  • It's okay if you take off the weights. I won't tell.
  • Breaking news! Harrison Bergeron is loose!
  • Rising Action
  • I am the emperor!! Watch me break all these chains and free you all!
  • Climax
  • George and Hazel Bergeron sit on their couch and watch a program on television. This program is interrupted, however, by the breaking news that Harrison Bergeron is on the loose and dangerous.
  • Falling Action
  • George, did you see that?! George?
  • *TV turns off*
  • Harrison bursts into the TV studio, where he rips off his handicaps and declares himself emperor. He selects one of the ballerinas on stage to be his empress and they dance together.
  • Resolution
  • Have you been crying? Why?
  • Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General enters the TV studio and promptly shoots both Harrison and his empress.
  • Lit term: Dramatic Irony
  • Have you been crying? Why?
  • Hazel and George's TV goes out, and Hazel turns to George to talk to him about everything they just witnessed. However, George is gone, and Hazel presumes he went to the kitchen to get a beer.
  • Hazel enters the kitchen where she finds George, who questions why she has been crying. Unfortunately, she cannot remember.
  • I- I can't remember, actually.
  • The author used this to put emphasis on the pitfalls of the society this story takes place in. It sort of puts salt in the wound of the reader, and gives them a reason to dislike this society even more, because a mother cannot even cry for her son without forgetting soon after what she was upset about in the first place, and that is something that this society condones.
  • I- I can't remember, actually.
