Speed and Velocity

#### Storyboard Text

• What can we name around school that has speed and velocity?
• You'd be surprised at what we can find.
• The kids out here are playing tag. We should write that down.
• Oh, look the janitor.
• Devin and Brodie have homework to list 4 things around school or home that they notice have speed and velocity. They want to get most of their work done at school and start with the playground.
• The bus also changes speed and velocity.
• Homework :  Out on the playground we saw kids playing tag . They were trying to outrun each other   and get away by changing their speed and velocity.
• Run Fido,   run!
• Homework :  The janitor was  moving the cleaning cart around the corner which changed his velocity.
• We finally completed our work.
• Homework :  The bus moved 8 miles in 16 minutes to travel .5miles/min. this gives us the average speed, because the bus changes in velocity at red lights and in traffic the instantaneous speed isn't that accurate.
• Homework : Fido was running around the tree in our backyard , he  kept changing his direction, meaning he was constantly changing his velocity.  You can show velocity  through arrows called vectors.
• Quick Review : Speed - distance/time, in a certain amount of time you traveled how far, a magnitude of velocity. Velocity - speed in a given direction, change in velocity are changes in speed or direction. Vectors - indicate velocity, velocity is a vector because of speed and velocity
