  • Catalonia is a region in Spain home to many people and businesses. Many Catalonians want to break off from Spain.
  • Many Catalonians believe that they “aren’t Spanish’, and because of that, they thought they deserved their own country.
  • The Catalonians held a vote in an attempt to get their own country, but it was turned down, despite 90% of the voters wanting independence.

  • After the vote, multiple protests were held, which resulted in injury. Over 900 Catalonian protesters were treated for injuries after an involvement with the Spanish police.
  • The Spanish government decided to enact Article 155 of the Spanish Constitution. This allowed them to take control of the region of Catalonia.

  • After all of the officials of the Catalonian government were fired, the Spanish Nationalists regained control. Shortly after, however, Catalonian Nationalists regained control over the region, and a new government was created.
