  • I thought you knew, old sport. I’m afraid I’m not a very goodhost.

  • Shortly after the meeting, Gatsby requested Jordan's presence, and when she came out of her conversation with the mysterious host, she simply asked me to meet her somewhere else, because what had been said could not be proclaimed there.
  • 
  • He wants to know, if you’ll invite Daisyto your house some afternoon and then let him come over.
  • Jordan tells Nick what she knows about Gatsby's past. She explains that when Gatsby was a young military man preparing to fight, Daisy was part of a group of debutantes who attended a ball with the soldiers. The two fell in love, and Daisy promised to wait for him to return from the war. However, their different social backgrounds - Gatsby from humble origins, Daisy from a wealthy family - prevented a relationship, and Daisy eventually met and married Tom. While Gatsby made a fortune trying to win Dayse back, and that he now wanted Nick's help to find his beloved.

  • The reunion between Gatsby and Daisy is awkward and uncomfortable at first, but they come to understand each other and over the course of the summer, they begin a full-fledged affair.

  • Daisy and Gatsby manage to keep the affair a secret for a while until Daisy accidentally talks about Gatsby in front of Tom, who immediately deduces that his wife is having an affair and becomes furious, going after Gatsby.

  • Tom uses Daisy as a weapon, telling Gatsby that he could never understand the kind of history the two of them have. In addition, he forces Daisy to make a choice at that moment: him or Gatsby. Daisy insists that she has loved both men, but chooses to remain in her stable position, married to Tom. She says that she will take Gatsby back to Long Island.
