  • montresor wanted revenge on Fortunato because he has insulted him
  • Conclusion
  • "Fortunato had insulted me. So I vowed revenge" (poe,27) "Fortunato took my arm and turned us toward my estate." (poe,29) "No one insults me without a punishment." (poe,31)
  • This showes that Fortunato had insulted him and his family for years. So Montresor took his family motto and put it to use
  • The Great Fortunato wasn't so great anymore, he rotted slowly to his death behind that very wall.
