After Apple Picking by Robert Frost
The author uses apple picking as a metaphor.
The literal meaning is there is a man apple picking and he is tired. He didn't finish picking all of his apples.
It means something totally different as a metaphor, although.
The empty barrels are all of his missed opportunities but the picked apples are the time and effort but into the barrels.
He says he is tired but really it is him about to die and he is looking down on all of his opportunities from heaven.
The speaker tells you to take care of the apple or opportunity meaning they all have value
