Frederick had a similar situation with Mrs. Auld later that month. Mrs. Auld had told Frederick to go out and do chores for her and Mr. Auld. But she had told him to be back by 3 o'clock. When Frederick left it was 1 o’clock, so he knew he had to be back in 2 hours. Frederick took his time going to the store. Taking in the scenery and looking at all of the birds and trees. When Frederick had arrived at the store he had realized it was 2 o’clock! Frederick had to hurry. He grabbed every thing he could on the list, going as fast as he could. He had started his journey back around 2:45. But when he got back Mrs. Auld was waiting for him on the porch with a stick. Now Frederick didn’t care about the time all he cared about was his safety. Mrs. Auld was going to beat Frederick to death.
Mrs. Auld was a completely different person. She treated her slaves so bad that when the slaves saw her they would run like a flock of sheep. Also she would give them little clothing or time to do things they need. Mrs. Auld watched her slaves like a hawk. Every time they would go somewhere without her she would watch them out of the corner of her eye. For example when the slaves go to use the bathroom she would glare over at them. Sometimes the slaves saw her and they would yell “Mind yo bidness Mrs. Auld.”
Mrs. Auld was now the meanest mistress in the town of Baltimore, Maraland. She became known as the “mean old hag on 25th street”. This is what happens when slavery corrupts your life. This is what happens when you get power over another human being.
