And today, we're both here to talk to you about inclusive education.
And I'm Alexander
I am a general education teacher.
Disability is an impairment that a person has which requires special education and related services
These designed instructions are better known as special services, all depending on the child's disability.
First I wanna talk about what is a disability and what is special education.
Now simply, special education is individualized instruction designed to meet the unique needs of certain students.
However, what is inclusive education? In simple terms, inclusive education means that all students attend and are welcomed by their neighbourhood schools in age-appropriate, regular classes and are supported to learn, contribute and participate in all aspects of the life of the school.
1. Co-planning and Co-teaching between a general and special ed teacher2. Community building to ensure students feel connected to one another and to the teachers3. Students shouldn't have to leave the room in order to learn compared to than any of the others
Now when it comes to inclusive education, it's important to remember the following in order to execute it properly.
1. Autism2.Deaf/Blindness3. Deafness4. Emotional disturbance5. Hearing impairment6. Intellectual disability 7. Multiple disabilities 8. Orthopedic impairments9. Other health impairment10. Specific learning disability11. Speech and Language impairments12. Traumatic brain injury13 Visual impairment
Also, there are 13 different categories of disability, they are the following:
Understanding these categories is key when teaching children who fall under these categories.
This shift in thinking helps educators fully take on the responsibility of all the students in the classroom.
Finally, a key concept in inclusive education is for educators to shift their thinking about students as "my students" and "your students" to "our students".
Thank you all for hearing us out today! We hope you learned a lot about inclusive education, and can one day take part in it, like everyone else should!
