ProblemMathilde believes that she deserves much better than what she has and she wants to fit in with the higher class, rich people. This is an example of an internal conflict(self vs. self)
Beginning-The author reflects on Mathilde's past and describes her internal conflict about how she believes that she is a lower class than what she deserves.
Middle/Action-The diamond(imitation) necklace that mathilde was wore to the party, was no longer with her.
Resolution-Mathilde looked at her with a blank expression on her face. Quickly Madame Forestier told Mathilde, "Do not fret. I still have the necklace with me, I can give it back to you if you wish." "No" Mathilde responded. Madame Forestier looked at her with a confused expression." Why not, Mathilde?" Madame Forestier asked in a very confused state of matter"" I am no longer going to aim for high class. I'm just going appreciate the life that i'm living."
