  • Buddha was born a prince with the given name Siddhartha Gautama around 563 B.C. in Nepal. Siddhartha's father meets with a fortune teller who predicts that Siddhartha is either going to be a King or a Priest. His father of course wants him to be a Priest.
  • Siddhartha grew up in a life of wealth and luxury without experiencing pain or sadness. Siddhartha was always protected from beggars or sick people on the streets. While Siddhartha was still young, he married and had a son.
  • This is the truth.
  • You are now enlightened.
  • The prince, Siddhartha, was about 29 years old when he rode out of the palace with no guards and saw an old man leaning on a stick. The next 3 times he went on a ride he saw a man with a disease, a man who had died, and a happy homeless man. He soon left the palace and searched for a happier life.
  • Awake the world to the true nature in life.
  • Siddhartha began studying Hindu Gurus. He learned about the life cycle and how he can escape the endless cycle of reincarnation. The suffering that had upset Siddhartha had been to horrible that he could not be satisfied with the Gurus approach to salvation. He became an ascetic and practiced self-denial, then soon later realized that this was not the path to truth.
  • Once Siddhartha's strength returned he sat and meditated for 49 days. He was visited by gods, then soon he understood the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. He had achieved the state of enlightenment.
  • Siddhartha is now known as Buddha and he taught that his purpose in life was to awaken the world to the true nature in life.
