- Rising Action
- Mathilde and her husband weren't the wealthiest but they weren't the most poor either. Mathilde always complained about not having enough. One day her husband brought her a letter from the Minister of Education saying they are invited to the Ministry.
- Climax
- The necklace I borrowed is gone!
- We must find a way to get it back.
- Mathilde had no jewelry so she went to her friend Madame Forestier to borrow some jewels. Mathilde borrowed a diamond necklace and she was very happy with her decision.
- Falling Action
- Mathilde danced and danced, she was very happy to be there. She danced till four in the morning.
- Resolution
- Oh, I'm sorry but my necklace was fake, It wasn't worth much...
- I spent years trying to replace your necklace because I lost it.
- When Mathilde went to her husband to leave the dance she noticed the necklace she borrowed was gone. Her and her husband had to do something about it.
- Mathilde and her husband spent ten years to buy a new necklace. They had become very poor because it costed them a lot of money to make up for the necklace. They were living in an attic.
- Mathilde found her friend Madame Forestier out while Mathilde was walking. At first Madame Forestier didn't notice Mathilde but then she did when Mathilde told her who she was. Mathilde had told her how she made up for the necklace. Madame Forestier felt bad and told her that the necklace was a fake and didn't cost much money.
