  • Cause: British Attack Baltimore/Fort McHenry
  • Mmmm.... I am truly moved by this..
  • Treaty of Ghent
  • It's not worth it...
  • Treaty of Ghent
  • Agreed.
  • Battle of New Orleans
  • Shouldn't this war be over by now?! I mean come on.
  • I know right, my goodness!
  • The British didn't hold Washington, instead they sailed for Baltimore, and Baltimore was ready for them. Commander of Fort McHenry requested a flag "so large that the British will have no difficulty seeing it. During the night of September 13-14, Francis Scott Key, a young attorney, was inspired by patriotic feelings and wrote a poem which was called, "The Star-Spangled Banner".
  • The British decided it was not worth their resources after 2 years of fighting. On December 24, 1814, the Treaty of Ghent officially ended the war. There was no clear winner and the territory remained the same.
  • This battle took place after the war had officially ended, but word had not gotten to the troops of New Orleans about the treaty. On January 8, 1815, British troops attacked the city of New Orleans, and Andrew Jackson led the American troops to victory. This battle made Jackson a war hero and helped him win the presidency in 1828.
