  • THE POWER
  • This shows that Jonas sees something different about the apple where is Asher just sees the apple as normal showing he is different to the community. This is important because we get an inside on the rest of the community being different to Jonas. "does anything seem strange to you? about the apple?"(pg 40)
  • The Release
  • When Jonas meets the giver he is given the name of the receiver of memory this then hints at us that people with pale eyes will have the responsibility of receiving memory and colour, this is important as the community values the receivers of memory. "Welcome, Receiver of memory" (pg 99)
  • The Saviour
  • this shows us that Jonas has to go through pain to be able to receive memories. Jonas does this because he wants the rest of the community to be able to receive memories. "May I have a relief-of-pain please?" (pg 143)
  • this is important in the book as Jonas catches what happened to some kids if they didn't have the pale eyes they were looking for . this shows the problems faced in the book Jonas didn't know. "Bye-Bye, little guy" (pg 189)
  • Showing Jonas doing what he can to save Gabriel and save the memories so that they can be shared. this is important as with out them there will be no more receivers of memory. "Jonas felt himself losing consciousness." (pg223)
