Mom, why can't I go to school like the other boys?
Well, its because then men expect us to do other things than get an education and schools don't let us in
When the education reform was first introduced to America in the 1800's, the leaders of the schools thought that is was only right for the boys to go to the schools and have the women stay at home and take care of the other children along with attending to tasks around the house.
Well when I had taken over head of the school I had admitted black students and girls
I think my parents are taking me out of this school next week
Same because they let the other kids into the school
Educators thought it was important for the boys to go to school because they wanted men to become inventors, discoverers, artisans, and scientific farmers for the better future in that point in time. We now know that this was all wrong and that we need other genders and races to attribute to the cause of a better future.
The boys school accross the street is way nicer than ours!
The women did not go to school because of the men wanting them to stay home and learn the ways of which the women were supposed to take care of the children and do the chores. Also, the African-Americans were not allowed to go to school because the states passed laws to have the African-Americans not attend a school at all and when these people were allowed to go to school the school was usually a lower income school.
Thank you Horace Mann and Prudence Crandall for all that you have done for us!
Another problem when the states started to admit African-Americans into the school system was that the white folk started to pull their kids out of school because they didn't want their children to be learning with another race and then Prudence Crandall had started to admit black and women into her schools so that made a new movement
When the movement to start letting the women into the schools started to happen the states let them attend but they were funded with horrible schools that were unhealthy and had little room for less girls to attend.
That's exactly what I was thinking too!
Horace Mann and Prudence Crandall have made some large steps in helping the education reform and having the equal right for all children and adults to go to school. They helped the children stop stealing from the shop owners and help educate the future. In my opinion this was one of the best reforms because it helped the future generations for better innovators, scientists, and entrepreneurs.
