  • The year is 2081 and everyone is equal due to the amendments enforced by the handicapper general. The reader is introduced to Hazel and George Bergeron, the parents of Harrison Bergeron. 
  • Falling Action
  • Put your handicaps back on now!
  • Harrison Bergeron escapes from jail and appears at a ballet recital. He then begins to take the handicaps off of several people.
  • Resolution
  • Diana Moon Glampers, head of handicapper general, shoots Harrison and the ballerina.
  • Literary Device
  • I shall now select my empress.
  • Diana tells the musicians if they don't put their handicaps back on, they die.
  • George went to the kitchen and didn't see what happened on the tv, however, when he returns Hazel has forgotten what happened. Neither remember the death of their son.
  • "A moment passed, and then a ballerina arose, swaying like a willow." This literary device is a simile, using the word 'like' to compare the ballerina to a willow.
