  • Climax
  • World War 2 is continuously pressing closer and closer to Transylvania and Moishe the Beadle knows it. He had been deported by SS officers but managed to escape them. Moishe came back to Sighet to warn the other Jews about the deportation, but no one believed him. The lack of belief caused Jews to be unprepared for what was to come. Little did they know their future was death.
  • Falling Action
  • SS officers come to the town of Sighet and form ghettos. The Jews will eventually be deported in the cattle cars and taken to concentration camps. On this journey, Elie and his father are inside of the same car, along with a woman who begins to scream about seeing flames of a fire, thus predicting the death of Jews.
  • Resolution
  • ELiezer and his family arrive at Birkenau, and the family is separated by gender. They stay here for some time before transferring to Auschwitz. After leaving Auschwitz, they arrive in camp Buna, Eliezer and his father working in an electrical kommando. At Buna, Eliezer struggles with death, despair, and hopelessness.
  • Elie hurts his foot and has an operation done on it, allowing him to stay in the hospital for a while. During this time the camps are being evacuated and Elie decides to march, although his foot is still hurt. Many people die on the way to Buchenwald inside the cattle cars and in the snow.
  • Inside of Buchenwald Elie's father dies. This leaves Elie feeling depressed but also relieved. Elie ends up surviving and decided to speak out, instead of staying silent like he had to in the camps.
