Storyboard Text

  • Regionalists focused on characters, dialect, customs, topography, and other features specific to certain regions.  Hamlin Garland shows this in his short story THE RETURN OF THE PRIVATE.
  • Anti-Naturalism
  • Realists generally used techniques that denote a particular kind of subject matter, especially one that represented middle-class life.  Clemens illustrates this in his work, LIFE ON THE MISSISSIPPI.
  • Modern
  • Naturalists suggested family background roles, social conditions, and environment in shaping human character.  Crane shows us this in THE BRIDE COMES TO YELLOW SKY.
  • Anti-Naturalists opposed the ideas and practices of Naturalists. We see this as Crosby wrote from a Christian point of view as we see in his poems: MORE LIKE JESUS WOULD I BE and ALL THE WAY MY SAVIOUR LEADS ME.
  • Modernists focused on form and content.  Also the Stream of Consciousness resulted from this movement.  We see this in Macleish's  simple poems.
