Precipitation falls to the ground as rain, hail or snow. It infiltrates the ground
As the young rivers travel towards flat land, they often join other smaller rivers called tributaries to form a larger river
As the river picks up speed, it lifts rocks and sediment of the river bed and carries it downstream
The river deposits this sediment on the inside of natural meanders and bends
As the river gets shallower and loses speed, it deposits sediment
The end of the river's journey is when it reaches the sea. This is called the mouth
