  • Tetzel Sells Indulgences
  • YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SAY THAT INDULGENCES ARE NOT USEFUL! THE CHURCH SAYS WE CAN SELL THEM; LISTEN TO THE CHURCH!
  • INDULGENCES HAVE NO BASIS IN THE BIBLE! THIS IS CORRUPTION AND I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT ANY LONGER!
  • The 95 Theses
  • Luther Puts the Theses On The Church
  •     Johann Tetzel was a priest who went to Wittenburg, Germany. He set up a pulpit and offered indulgences to any Christians who gave money to the church; to rebuild the Cathedral of St. Peter. These indulgences granted them and their dead relatives immediate entry into heaven. This angers Martin Luther and help push the Protestant Reformation into motion.
  • The Emperor Calls For A Recant
  • Emperor: Recant Your Opinions!! Martin: Never!!
  • Martin Luther was so outraged by the church's corruption and worldliness; he wrote 95 Theses against indulgences. He argued that indulgences had no basis in the bible, popes had no authority to send souls out of purgatory (time you need to wait before heaven) , and that Christians could only be saved through faith.
  • Peace Of Augsburg
  • After Martin Luther creates the 95 Theses; he posted them on the Wittenberg church walls. This angered most of the citizens, and they supported Luther in his protests against the church and indulgences.
  • The Future
  • Maybe Martin Luther can help me start my religion....
  • When the Holy Roman Emperor heard what  Martin was doing, and how many people supported him, he called for Luther to recant his claims. After Luther refused that and did not care that the pope excommunicated him, the emperor made him an outlaw. A prince-who agreed with his ideas-hid him in a castle for many years to protect him from the Roman Emperor.
  • After many bloody wars and arguments with German Princes about Martin Luther and his ideas, the Emperor makes an agreement with them. They can choose for themselves and their people; either Lutherism or Christianity.
  • In the future, Lutherism will be added to with different ideas from more scholars.  Many other religions will base there fundamental laws on Lutherism, and study the life of a Lutheran.
