  • Michelangelo's Works of Art
  • Why is Michelangelo A Humanist?
  • Michelangelo was a Renaissance artist who was born March 6, 1475 in Caprese Michelangelo, Italy. He was a renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet, and engineer. He shaped marble and created masterpieces like; Pietá and David. He also worked on the roof of the Sistine Chapel in Rome and crafted poems about what he painted.
  • Machiavelli
  • Michelangelo created Pietá which was a sculpture of the mother Mary, and David- a biblical shepherd who killed the giant Goliath. Michelangelo was a talented architect, and he designed the dome of St. Peter's Cathedral. David was a symbol of humanism because he was portrayed  mightier and above the normal man.
  • Machiavelli's Writings
  • A humanist is someone who focuses on the here and now, and worldly subjects rather than religious issues. Michelangelo was a humanist because he focused on individual achievement, like in his statue of David. He also was an architect who created big domes that drew attention to these buildings rather than having them blend in and not be noticed.
  • Why is Machiavelli A Humanist?
  • Machiavelli was a Renaissance writer who was born May 3, 1469, in Florence, Italy. He was a diplomat and had observed kings in foreign courts. After he was 'kicked out' he wrote books on good leadership and how to be a great ruler. He also used background knowledge about ancient Rome to help influence his books.
  • Machiavelli wrote The Prince in 1513,  which was a guide to rulers about gaining and maintaining power. He combined his personal experience with politics and knowledge of the past to help rulers. His book said that fear was the best motive of motivation because when you are nice people will let you down, but if people are afraid to let you done, things get done.

  • The Prince
  • Machiavelli was a humanist because he focused on individual achievement. In his book it is about one person rising above the rest and taking power. He influenced people to  take control of their own life and achieve more than their opponent. He also showed people that it was not just to let other people overpower you and to take power.
