Storyboard Text

  • Causes of the Civil War
  • Huh, I would really love to learn more about the Civil War... Let's see what the humans who started it can teach me!
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin
  • People are really upset about this book. I wish I could read it, but I’m, you know, a dog.
  • Mexican American War
  • Oh they got lots of land! That’s good! Oh no now they’re fighting about slavery again... that’s bad...
  • Featuring Harold the Dog
  • Cotton Gin
  • Yikes, people are still mean to each other here... Well maybe they aren't in a different part of the South.
  • Uncle Tom’s Cabin depicted the horrors of slavery in a way that was so brutal that neither the North or the South could ignore the growing issue that slavery was becoming.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act
  • Wait so these people got the power to choose whether or not they wanted slavery, but everyone is still mad?
  • America gained a lot of new land when they won the Mexican American War and although it was great at first , they then began to argue over whether or not the new territories should be slave states.
  • Brooks-Sumner
  • Wow, humans are crazy.
  • The invention of the cotton gin increased the Southern economy, but also increased the need for slaves, which angered those in the North who opposed slavery.
  • My farm is better than your farm because I have more slaves haha.
  • When Kansas and Nebraska were given popular sovereignty, no one was actually pleased about it because it meant that slavery could expand into the West, which the Notth opposed, or that slavery could be contained to America, which the South opposed.
  • This was the beginning of the Notth Andy the South taking their issues with each other and slavery to the government and attacking each other personally, which was a huge turning point in the time before the war.
