Little tree, little tree, shake over me, That silver and gold may come down and cover me".
When her mother died Aschenputtle tried to visit her grave daily.
Once her father remarried, she was forced to live with 3 new people (her step-mother, and her 2 step-sisters). Her step-mother and step-sisters took away all her fancy dress and shoes and gave her an old gray dress and wooden shoes.
When the night of the balls came Aschenputtel went to her mothers' grave and cried a poem "Little tree, little tree, shake over me, That silver and gold may come down and cover me". After she said this poem a little birds floated down a dress of gold and silver and a pair of slippers.
