This is our protagonist Miles (Pudge) Halter. He is a round character which means that he changes a lot throughout the story. We start with a shy quiet kid and end with someone who will have friends for life.
This photo depicts Miles at the convience store. This is the same place that Alaska would get her Strawberry Hill and Cigarettes.
S = Mile is constantly sharing his feelings about a situation. For example, "I thought of Florida, of my "school friends," and realized how much I would miss the Creek if I ever had to leave it. I stared at Takumi's twig sticking erect out of the mudand said, "I swear to god I won't rat."(Pg.67 Green) This quote from the book exemplifies his loyalty to his friends.
This picture portrays the main characters at the smoking hole. It's great for smoking because the Eagle doesn't go there and it's relatively close to campus.
T = Miles is absolutely obsessed with last words. Miles thinks to himself that "I would never know her well enough to know her in those last minutes..."(Pg.111 Green) this tells us that Miles is always thinking about last words and not knowing Alaska's Is tearing him apart.
This photo features Miles and Chip in their bedroom with Chip is playing the video game console in the corner.
E = Miles is an introverted and shy boywho doesn't normally speak for himself. On page 10, the Colonel insists that Pudge should follow him. "He'd just walk out the room assuming I'd follow, and this time I did." This quote portrays Miles as a follower and he tries to fit in. The last thing he wants is to be alone again.
Alaska talking to Miles at the beach is one of her first character building moments. This scene was important because it really solidifies Alaska Young in your head as an important character.
A = Miles' character is shown through his actions throughout the book. He does many things that show his personality. For instance, " It wasn't until I stood up to leave that I noticed Alaska had skipped class- how could she skip the only class worth attending? I grabbed a copy of the final for her." (Pg.70 Green) This tells us he is always thinking about his friends and how he could help them.
This is the barn the main characters went to after the prank. This is an especially important scene because we learn about the death of Alaska's mom and how it destroyed her.
This happened when Miles and Takumi were arguing about Alaska while smoking in the bathroom. The hear what seems to be the Eagle and begrudgingly jump into the shower to hide.
L = Miles is a very scrawny kid. He says that "My skinniness always surprised me: My thin arms didn't seem to get much bigger as they moved from my wrist to shoulder, my chest lacked hint of fat or muscle. "(Pg.7 Green) These lines tell us that he has always been skinny and never quite got used to it.
