The Dred Scott case involved Dred Scott vs Sanford in a trial over U.S. citizenship for African Americans. Scott had been living in a free state for three years, but after this trial he was declared not free. The court also decided that all African Americans were not U.S. citizens and therefore were not protected by the federal government . This case angered the North because they declared all African Americans were not citizens, and the North was fighting for the African Americans.
John Brown, along with 22 other men, raided Harper's Ferry, VA with weapons in hand and more weapons for the slaves in hopes that they would spark a slave rebellion. The slaves did not join in, and John Brown was captured. His actions made the southerners feel the need to condense their militias into an army which they would need for the upcoming civil war
The republican party was formed in 1854. Their main goal was to oppose the expansion of slavery and stop it from ever leaving the southern states. Abraham Lincoln was elected as the leader of the party and was the public figure for them as well. Lincoln would later be elected the 16th president of the U.S. and helped to abolish slavery in the country.
