  • I believe that the U.S. should take its rightful place in the world and rule the whole of North America
  • But the immorality of slavery would only expand westward if we did conquer the rest of North America, therefor I am opposed to it.
  • Northern Free States: Feelings about the 36°30′ line?
  • But that would mean more slave states by the rule of the 36°30′ line.
  • I think that the United States should fulfill its Manifest Destiny and conquer all of North America.
  • Northern Free States: Who was involved?
  • Yes. Lewis Cass and I led the Northern debate over the Missouri Compromise

  • The Northerners knew that expanding westward would mean more slave states, therefore they opposed it.
