  • William Henry Harrison defeated Tecumseh & the British at Thames, Oct 5, 1813.
  • After defeating France, Britain invaded Washington D.C. & burned the Capitol & White House, Aug 24, 1814.
  • When Francis Scott Key saw the US flag wave over Ft McHenry after 25 hours of British bombardment, he wrote the Star Spangled Banner.
  • A US victory at Lake Champlain, Sept 11, 1814, weakened Britain's desire to continue the war.
  • The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812 Dec 24, 1814.  US pride surged, Indian resistance in the NW weakened & the Federalists Party came to an end.
  • Andrew Jackson won at New Orleans, Jan 8, 1815.  The battle took place after the war was over as news traveled slowly.
