Storyboard Text

  • Exposition: Jonas is reflecting on his time before his big year 12 ceremony. We learn what his world is like and how he lives. We learn about his younger years and his friends.
  • I feel frightened. No Jonas, precision of language. I feel apprehensive.
  • Conflict: Jonas’ assignment was skipped in the ceremony, this causes him and the audience worry and anxiousness. Jonas’ assignment is addressed later in the ceremony, he is given his assignment, Receiver of Memories.
  • You have the capacity to "see beyond"
  • Rising action: The giver transmits lots of memories of good and bad things that shows his community isn’t perfect. Jonas and the giver plan for Jonas to run away. Forcing the community to remember the memories that the giver has been forced to endure previously and the Jonas accumulated over his time as receiver.
  • This community isn't perfect.
  • Climax: Jonas suddenly runs away with Gabe in the night because he learns that Gabe is to be released (killed) in the morning. Jonas and the giver had planned to save food, but because Jonas fled suddenly, He had almost no food.
  • Must. Get. Away
  • Falling action: The journey away from his community and into the wilderness and how Jonas and Gabe survive.
  • I am so hungry. How will Gabe and I survive?
  • I'm hungry
  • Resolution: when Jonas is about to give up, but trudges up the hill (which he sled down in the memories he received) towards the music that the giver said existed.
  • Just..... a ..... bit..... further....
